The online and print campaign for Conquest Games Convention is an ongoing project for me.
Conquest Games Convention is an annual event run in Melbourne, Australia for tabletop gamers. In 2013 I took over development of the website. From 2016 I started taking over digital campaigns as well as becoming president of the organising committee.
As Conquest is a non-profit, and run entirely by volunteers, I provide my services for free.
Website Design & Development (2013 to present)
Upon taking over the design in 2013, it became important to design for mobile (responsive design) as previous iterations of the website didn’t offer this feature. From 2014 to 2016 I created custom WordPress themes from scratch. From 2018 to present I have used a new theme using Zurb’s Foundation CSS Framework.
From 2017 onward the Conquest website has used WooCommerce to handle ticket sales. The site also uses custom forms to accept “expressions of interest” in signing up for game sessions.
Email Newsletter (2016 to present)
Since 2016 I have taken over operation of Conquest’s email newsletter. I have designed the custom email template, and usually write the messages with assistance from the committee. Conquest sends out emails as often as needed – with frequency increasing as the convention gets closer.
We use MailChimp to keep a list of email subscribers and to send out our campaigns.
The Organising Committee review and approve each email to ensure they are suitable for our audience.
Social Media Posts (2014 to present)
Currently I am managing the Instagram and Twitter profiles for Conquest. I also share responsibility of looking after the Facebook page with the other committee members.
Posters & Flyers (2014 to present)
From 2014 to now I have used Adobe InDesign and Illustrator to produce posters for the annual games convention. (‘Emily’ illustrations have been provided by various artists.)
